WHERE WE GOT OUR NAME

The Aaron Center proudly derives its name from the pioneering contributions of Aaron Beck in the realm of psychology. Our center was established on the foundational principles laid down by Beck, who dedicated his life to advancing evidence-based psychological therapy.

Aaron Beck graduated from Brown University in 1942 and Yale Medical School in 1946, after which he completed his fellowship in psychiatry at the Austin Riggs Center and then served as Assistant Chief of Neuropsychiatry at the Valley Forge Army Hospital.

Achievements:

  •  Globally recognized as the father of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).

  • Leading researcher in psychopathology, with over 2000 clinical trials validating the effectiveness of CBT for various mental disorders and medical conditions.

Cognitive Therapy:

  • Identified underlying negative beliefs and automatic thoughts in depressed clients.

  • Developed a new therapy, called CBT which focused on correcting negative information processing biases.

  • Cognitive Therapy proved more effective than medication in treating depression in clinical trials, leading to its widespread adoption internationally.

  • Dr. Beck expanded the application of Cognitive Therapy beyond depression to various disorders like anxiety, personality disorders, substance use, and suicidality.
